The NBA Goes Mainstream: Watch the Best Basketball League on Free TV!

“It’s the best sports show in the world,” says Gary Payton, nine-time NBA All-Star, 1996 Defensive Player of the Year and 2006 NBA Champion. “We have a lot of players from different countries now – that makes it even more exciting .”

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA (six-time NBA champion, six-time MVP, 19-time All-Star, second in the all-time scoring list, and, and, and…) also believes in globalization distinguishes the basketball league: “If you look at the major sports in the world, they have an appeal that transcends all borders.”

Last October, the NBA announced that the league had 120 international players from 40 different countries. That accounts for more than a quarter of all NBA players.

“Everyone plays basketball, people work hard and you see the results. As the game continues to grow, things are getting bigger and bigger, that’s just how it is. It’s a great sport that brings everyone together, it’s exciting to watch “Exciting to be there,” says Shawn Marion, who won the NBA Finals in 2011 with Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks.

From a US league, the NBA has developed into a global phenomenon over the last few decades: “It’s fantastic to spread this game around the world, to see so many different cultures and countries and the popularity of basketball and the people who love basketball,” said Ray Allen, one of the best shooters in NBA history.

Hall of Famer Allen also expects Germany to continue to develop: “Germany is certainly a country that I can imagine will produce some incredible talent over the next ten years.”

Kenny “the Jet” Smith won the NBA Finals twice with the Houston Rockets and is part of the well-known “Inside the NBA” crew with Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson Jr. For him, versatility is what makes the sport of basketball from: “It’s one of the few sports that you can play alone or with ten people. Anyone can play. We have all kinds of sizes and players from all over the world.”

NBA – Tim Hardaway: “Be excited!”

For Tim Hardaway, Hall of Famer and five-time All-Star, basketball is “like music.” The NBA is exciting and entertaining: “You will see exciting basketball, you will see incredible plays. You will see dunks, crossovers, ankle breakers and the best throws. Enjoy it, have fun with it, be excited!”
