The main remodeling license for the Spotify Camp Nou is approved

MADRID, 12 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government Commission of Barcelona City Council has approved the granting of the main remodeling license for the Spotify Camp Nou, as indicated by FC Barcelona this Thursday on its website, regarding works that have the stadium as the epicenter of the so-called Espai Barça .

These works began last June, just at the end of the 2022/23 sports season, with the demolition of the third tier having advanced, taking advantage of the break in the National League Championship for the World Cup in Qatar in the fall of 2022.

“In recent months, the work has focused on the total demolition of the third stand, coinciding with the transfer of the activity to the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium,” explained the Blaugrana entity in its press release.

“The main license gives the green light to the execution of the actions, above and below ground. In this way, during the 2023/24 season and with the demolitions already practically completed, the bulk of the work will be carried out, proceeding to the foundations, as well such as the execution of the structure of the new third tier, including both ‘hospitality’ rings,” the note stated.

“It is also planned that actions will be promoted in the surroundings of the stadium, with works on the underground parking, the construction of the new intelligent central warehouse and an experiential space, the Barça Hospitality Showroom, for the information of the members and marketing of the project “added the culé press text.

Regarding the tasks related to the Modification of the General Metropolitan Plan already underway, the urbanization works on Menéndez y Pelayo Street have already been completed and the start of the urbanization of Travessera de les Corts, the second phase of the Joan XXIII Avenue and Elizabeth Eidenbenz Street (formerly Maternitat Street).

MORE SUSTAINABLE AND TECHNOLOGICALLY LEADERSHIP

After the club presented the improvements in the initial project to the Barcelona City Council, the result of the joint work carried out with the municipal technicians and the Espai Barça team itself to modify the main works license, it has been definitively approved.

“It incorporates new improvements in terms of sustainability, innovation, technology and accessibility, in addition to others that will maximize its economic potential and, above all, minimize the effects on paying members. Also in terms of the works process, trying to concentrate its thickness in the shortest possible time, thus also minimizing the impact on the neighbors,” the press release stated.

“Sustainability becomes the stadium’s DNA with the aim of turning the future Camp Nou into a benchmark in this area. With the new rethinking applied to the approved license, a series of improvements have been deepened that will have a direct positive impact on the environment and whose objective is to reduce the club’s carbon footprint, promote the circular economy and enhance the biodiversity of the area,” the note added.

“Among these improvements, the commitment to promoting sustainable mobility stands out, as the club is already doing in its temporary move to Montjuïc, facilitating arrival to the stadium by public transport and favoring electric mobility, also including designated spaces for bicycles,” the press text noted.

Barça said it will try to promote “energy savings and efficiency with the installation of 18,000 m2 of photovoltaic panels on the new roof, to generate the electricity necessary for lighting on match days.” This would be equivalent to about 600 homes in Eixample.

“The use of green energy stored in the subsoil will be explored to reduce heating and cooling consumption. Likewise, a geothermal system and a global hot and cold distribution will be installed, which will reduce the contracted energy by 30%, reusing it rainwater collected from the roof,” the note continued.

In this sense, Barça advocated for “an improvement that will allow all the vegetation on the future campus to be watered 10 times a year.” “In relation to biodiversity, currently the native fauna is already protected and the tree mass of the enclosure will increase by more than 15%,” the note stressed.

“In the technological field, the future Camp Nou will incorporate cutting-edge technologies. The vehicle security and access control system will also be improved and maximum performance will be made of the possibilities that 5G connectivity will offer,” the press text concluded. .
