He Hotel Lopesan-Costa Melonized hosted last Wednesday night the official presentation of the next edition of Maspaloma Rallys, which will reach its 50th birthday on October 27 and 28. A legendary rally that has marked an entire era of our motorsports and that has grown in parallel with the most important tourist area of the Canary Islands, such as Maspalomas. A historical milestone that was very well represented in the entrance square to the hotel, by the cars that won the first (1974) and the last edition of the “Maspa” (2022), the Fiat Abarth 124 Rally and the Hyundai i20 Rally5.
The event was chaired by Marco Aurelio Pérez, mayor of the host municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, who was accompanied by several of his councillors, along with the insular Sports Councilor of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Aridane Romero; the Sports Councilor of the Villa de Agüimes, Alberto Santana; hotel director David Morales; and the president of the Las Palmas Automobile Federation, Miguel Angel Domínguez. Also present were executives from the sponsor BP for the Las Palmas Rally Championship, presidents of teams and sports clubs and a group of drivers and co-drivers, including several winners of the “Maspa”, whose victories have been shared by a total of 22 drivers. and 34 different co-pilots.
After the commemorative video and the introduction made by the host of the event, Vicente Travieso, who spoke about the “living” history that represents this test through which champions from Europe and Spain have passed and represented the islands in both competitions. Closing of registrations
Registration for the event closes this Thursday and participation already exceeds 90 teams, including CCRA followers, with Maspalomas now becoming the sixth of the eight qualifying events for this Canary Islands competition, after the postponement of the event.
