Serafino was born in 1540 in Montegranaro in the Marche. He was poor: for a period he was a flock keeper. At 18 he entered a convent in Tolentino. He was welcomed as a religious brother into the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin and did his novitiate in Jesi. He wandered around all the convents in the Marche, because, despite the good will and maximum diligence that he put into doing things, he was unable to please either his superiors or his brothers, who did not spare him reproaches. But he always demonstrated such goodness, poverty, humility, purity and mortification. In 1590 Serafino settled definitively in Ascoli Piceno.

Two “books” were fundamental for him: the crucifix and the rosary with which he made himself a messenger of peace and goodness. He was 64 years old and the fame of his sanctity was spreading throughout Ascoli, when he himself insistently asked for the viaticum. Death overtook him on 12 October 1604. After passing away, simple even in death, the voice of the people who called him a saint also reached the ears of Pope Paul V, who authorized the lighting of a lamp on his tomb. He was canonized by Clement XIII on 16 July 1767.
