The last “UFC 294” fight show – the biggest UFC failure of the year?

If three out of five fights on the “main card” are with substitutes, and they are announced relatively shortly before the fight show, then it is absolutely rational to ask questions about the quality of the purchased product.

On the one hand, the names that replaced Košta and Oliveira are from the “big end”, however, if you look deeper, maybe this choice was not correct after all.

Chimaev leaves questions, but Volkanovski can forget about the lightweight title

Kamaru Usman is one of the most dominant champions of all time. Nowadays, it is likely to forget the days when a wrestler won seven, eight, or nine title fights in a row. It seems the overall level of wrestlers these days is simply too high to expect such winning streaks.

Usman had won six straight title fights before his second fight against Edwards and was closing in on a seventh before Edwards’ left leg put a damper on those plans.

Then followed another loss to Edwards. Usman is now 36 years old and has “dead” knees. The wrestler himself admitted that he once walked down the stairs in reverse to reduce the pressure on his knees…

Koshta was supposed to be this big test for Chimaev in the middleweight division. Instead, Chimayev fought a 77kg division fighter whose prime years seem to be behind him. In addition, Chimayev failed to win this fight prematurely.

True, it should be noted that Chimayev managed to transfer the fight to the ground floor four times. Prior to this fight, in Usman’s entire UFC career, his opponent had managed to do that just once (Edwards in their second fight).
