The Gunners Secure Victory Against Sevilla FC in Champions League Group B Clash

The Gunners are slowly setting the record straight. Favorites in Group B of the Champions League, the Arsenal players reacted well by winning against Sevilla FC on Tuesday evening during the 3rd day (1-2). The Londoners found the fault just before the break through Gabriel Martinelli (45th+4), then shortly after through Gabriel Jesus (53rd).

Nemanja Gudelj (59th) quickly reduced the score but Mikel Arteta’s players held on, reacted after their setback at Lens which drew in front of PSV Eindhoven (1-1) and regained control of the ranking.

Martinelli in Seville

Despite a voluntary start to the match on the part of the Gunners, it was initially a question of caution and solidity. If the visitors got their foot on the ball and evolved higher than the Andalusians, they did not force their talent like the very discreet Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka. The Londoners came up against valiant opponents in defense and did not want to give in.

The Sevillians fought well. They also seriously struggled in the offensive animation with in particular a Dodi Lukebakio lost in his positioning or a Youssef En-Nesyri perfectly held by William Saliba. Trained for two weeks by the Uruguayan Diego Alonso, they clearly lacked inspiration despite their dynamism.

The Blanquirrojos came out of their camp more in the first period and Lucas Ocampos launched En-Nesyri towards the opposing area for a shot in the race that was a little too cross (45th + 1). They wanted to insist but were above all punished by a sublime opening from his camp by Gabriel Jesus for Martinelli who sped full axis before dribbling past Orjan Nyland and sending the ball into the Norwegian goalkeeper’s cage to open his counter in C1 ( 45th+4).

Gabriel Jesus on fire, then injured

When it resumed, a Sevillian reaction was expected. Rather, quite the opposite happened. Given confidence by their opening score, the Gunners raised their level and stifled their opponents. Odegaard missed a break point (48th), not Gabriel Jesus who showed his class by challenging Jesus Navas on the left before curling from the right towards the opposite corner (0-2, 53rd). He has already scored 3 goals in the competition.

With their backs against the wall, Seville quickly responded. Mariano Diaz and Erik Lamela entered (57th) then Gudlej headed his team back from a corner from Ivan Rakitic (1-2, 59th). The restless Ocampos placed a nice scissor just wide of the target (66th) but the locals were slow to show themselves dangerous again against the passive Gunners. Gabriel Jesus was injured in the thigh (81st). David Raya, for his part, came close to the csc on an intervention in front of his cage (90th + 4). An inconsequential scare for Arsenal who won a 4th success for their 18th trip to Spain.
