The Economic Decline of Independiente Santa Fe: Journalist Exposes César Pastrana’s Role

The renowned journalist targeted César Pastrana and recounted the actions that put the club in debt.

Independiente Santa Fe is going through a moment of sporting crisis in the BetPlay II-2023 League. However, the problems in the Bogotá team have plagued the club in recent years, as a result of an economic crisis that has prevented it from putting together highly competitive teams.

Since Eduardo Méndez assumed the presidency of Santa Fe, there has been talk of cleaning up the finances, since he received the club in precarious conditions, with lots of debts and with the obligation to undergo a reorganization before the Superintendency of Companies.

Previous bad administrations led Santa Fe to put economics before sports, and this is reflected in the absence of titles, great teams and prominence in Colombian and international soccer.

Little had been said about the reasons for the bankruptcy in Santa Fe, but this Friday, October 13, journalist Javier Hernández Bonnet dropped a bombshell, pointing out former president César Pastrana as the main culprit for the economic decline of the cardinals.

Hernández Bonnet told his version of the way Pastrana acted, the decisions he made, to put his personal objectives first regardless of the club’s financial loss.

“The previous president of Independiente Santa Fe, César Pastrana, hired a large number of players, kept them on his payroll, and since he could not register all of them, he lent them (to other teams) and paid their salaries, even if they were in Cúcuta , in Alianza Petrolera, anyway. He lent to all (the teams), because his goal was to become president of the Dimayor,” Bonnet said on Blu Radio’s ‘Sports Blog’.

“Lending players permanently, there was a commitment of ‘since I lent you, give me the ‘vote’ for the assembly,’” added the commentator.

And he stressed: “That is the bankruptcy of Independiente Santa Fe, from which it is emerging today.”
