The Baltimore Orioles Fall to the Texas Rangers in Sweep, Ending AL East’s Playoff Run

The last representative of the American League East section has fallen, with the Baltimore Orioles being defeated in three games by the Texas Rangers. Tuesday night at Globe Life Field, they put the final nail in the coffin with a convincing 7-1 victory.

The section led by the Orioles (101-61) was by far the most competitive in major baseball in 2023. Except that in the playoffs, all of its teams were swept. The Toronto Blue Jays (89-73) bowed to the Minnesota Twins and the Tampa Bay Rays (99-63) were the Rangers’ first victims.

Baltimore was no match in the decisive game, its batters being neutralized for seven innings by starter Nathan Eovaldi (2-0) before his relievers took over.

Dean Kremer (0-1), who posted an excellent 13-5 record in the regular season, had a nightmarish night of work. He allowed seven hits and six runs – Corey Seger and Adolis Garcia hitting homers at his expense – before being sent to the showers. His stint lasted only one round and two thirds.

Mitch Garver contributed to the Rangers’ early success with a double good for two runs. Nathaniel Lowe added the finishing touch with a home run in the sixth inning.

The Orioles sorely lacked support from their pitchers. They have allowed 18 points in the last two games alone.

This is the first time since 2011 that the Rangers have reached the American final series. That year, they lost a second time in a row in the World Series, against the St. Louis Cardinals. They are now awaiting the result of the duel between the Twins and the Houston Astros, the latter leading two games to one.
