The Argentine Horacio Zeballos won his fifth Masters 1000 title this Sunday along with the Spanish Marcel Granollers and the first of the season, by beating the Indian Rohan Bopanna and the Australian Matthew Ebden 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 in the final of Shanghai doubles.

The seventh seeds reached the decisive match without losing a set but the fourth seeds, who were chasing their third trophy of the year, started with an advantage and demanded a response from the Spanish-Argentine duo starting in the second set.

In it, Zeballos and Granollers took a 4-0 lead, which allowed them to reach the third and final set, which they won on the third championship point in the tie-break, after 84 minutes.

“We played against a great team. They were serving very well, doing great things, but I think the most important thing was to maintain confidence and continue with our game. In the end we were playing very good tennis,” highlighted the man from Mar del Plata.

With their 33rd victory of the season, the Argentine and the Spaniard consolidated themselves in fourth position in the doubles ranking and fueled their expectations of qualifying for the ATP Finals for the fourth consecutive year.

The Shanghai tournament, played on a fast surface and with prizes of $10,046,270, was his fifth Masters 1000 after Montreal (2019), Rome (2020), Madrid (2021) and Cincinnati (2021).

This victory was their eighth title together and the first since Halle in 2022, on grass.

In the individual table, the Polish Hubert Hurkacz, number 17 in world tennis, was proclaimed champion after beating the Russian Andrey Rublev (7th) in the final by 6-3, 3-6 and 7-6 (8).
