The Biscayan runner Jon Barrenetxea, from Caja Rural- Seguros RGA, has signed a contract for two seasons, until 2025, with the Movistar Team, as reported this Friday by the telephone team in a statement.

Barrenetxea, 1.90 meters tall, is the fourth Spanish addition to the Movistar Team for the next season after Carlos Canal, Pelayo Sánchez and Javier Romo. In 2023 he won the Mountain in Itzulia and was third in the Boucles de l’Aulne. In addition, he was called up by the Spanish team for the absolute European Championship in Drenthe, in the Netherlands.

“For me it is a great pride and responsibility to join the Movistar Team. I am extremely grateful to Caja Rural for the trust they had in me to become professionals; I have really enjoyed the bike and I have learned a lot from them,” he commented.

This 2023 has served to confirm that he can have a “nice journey” in the professional field. “Something you always have doubts about when you take the leap. I have been able to demonstrate my conditions and the ambition for the future is to continue growing as a cyclist, always seeking to be better, and learning from all the teammates I will be with now, who have a great level,” he indicated.
