The 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles to Include Cricket, Flag Football, and More

The 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles will include cricket, flag football, lacrosse, baseball and softball. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) still has to agree to the organizers’ proposal, which they published on Monday evening. This step, which is expected to take place at the IOC session in Mumbai, India, which begins on Sunday, is considered a formality. The new sports are “relevant, innovative and community-oriented and will be played in backyards, schoolyards, community centers, stadiums and parks across the United States and around the world,” said Casey Wasserman, chairman of the organizing committee. “They will bring new athletes to the Games and expand the fan base as well as leverage the Games’ presence in the digital space.” The Games in the USA will take place from July 14th to 30th, 2028.

Cricket, previously included in the Olympic program in Paris in 1900, and flag football are likely to play a key role. The Cricket World Cup is currently underway in India – the six-week title fights in the sport, which is considered one of the most popular in the world, are not only generating great interest in the host country, the sport is also popular in Australia and Great Britain. According to industry experts, the Olympic broadcast rights for the cricket competitions are worth a good 175 million euros.
