In front of their home crowd, in Arlington, a suburb of Dallas, the Texas Rangers opened the 2023 World Series by winning Game 1 on Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks (6-5). But the latter did not come far from victory. At the start of the ninth and final round, they led 5-3. The Rangers tied it up, however, thanks to a Corey Seager homerun, which also allowed Leody Taveras to score and took both teams into overtime.
Then, during the 11th inning, the Cuban Adolis Garcia, who had been elected MVP of the American League final, in turn hit a homerun which gave the Texas Rangers victory. Pitcher Nathan Eovaldi was another architect of the Texans’ success: he managed to eliminate eight Diamondbacks batters. Game 2 of the World Series will take place on Saturday, still in Arlington.
