Teddy Riner Opts Out of Abu Dhabi Grand Slam as Olympic Preparations Take Priority

Teddy Riner remains at rest. While he was to launch his season this week in Abu Dhabi during the Grand Slam, the name of the French judoka is ultimately not present in the table for the heavyweight tournament (+100kg) drawn this Monday. At 34, the PSG judoka has set the Olympic Games as the supreme objective of his season, a few months after his world title in Doha.

Riner, who is not injured according to L’Équipe, would therefore have chosen to knowingly skip the tournament in order to preserve himself: “Apart from the Champions League with PSG, the French team, it’s going to be tough tailor-made, à la carte menu”, he confided to the sports daily at the beginning of September.

This package is therefore added to his withdrawal from the European Judo Championships, which begin on November 3 in Montpellier and in which the triple Olympic champion has already announced not to participate. More than ever, the objective remains solely the Olympics for the French champion.
