Team Liechtenstein Set to Compete at the 2023 Summer EYOF in Maribor

The Summer EYOF will take place in Maribor from July 23rd to 29th, 2023. Liechtenstein will be represented by Sienna Zobel (athletics), Manuel Bicker (judo) and Moritz Glauser (tennis).

Missions of Team Liechtenstein

Moritz Glauser starts the tournament on Sunday morning before the official opening ceremony. He plays his matches at the Branik Tennis Club in Maribor. Sienna Zobel will be taking part in two middle distance races in the Poljane Stadium in the middle of the tournament week; she will compete in the 1500 meters and the 3000 meters. Manuel Bicker’s appearances in judo, category -66kg, are on the program on Wednesday, he will compete in the Lukna Hall.

European Youth Olympic Festival

The approximately 3,600 participants in the EYOF fight for medals in eleven sports. The competitions for 14- to 18-year-old talent take place in the sports of swimming, judo, tennis, volleyball, artistic gymnastics, athletics, cycling and handball. New and for the first time, the sports skateboarding, mountain biking and 3×3 basketball are also included.

An event to get a taste of the Olympic air

The EYOF is a large multi-sport event that is organized and carried out under the umbrella of the European Olympic Committee. For the young participants, the EYOF offers a first opportunity to get a taste of the Olympic air.

A celebratory opening ceremony including a march in by delegations, life in an athletes’ village, access controlled via accreditation or a large dining hall where meals are served – all of this is a foretaste and at the same time a motivator for any upcoming Olympic events at elite level.

The competitions in different sports taking place at the same time and in the same place enable the participating athletes and coaches to look beyond their own horizons and to network beyond their own sport and their own national borders.
