Taghazout, surfing and relaxing on the most beautiful beach in Morocco

Never heard of Taghazout? Maybe not, if you don’t surf. It is a fishing village along the coast of Morocco, which in recent years has become a much loved destination for surfers. But they don’t like to publicize it too much.
And they are right: Taghazout is a small oasis of peace and waves on a human scale. Perfect for learning to do board sports, but also relaxing for those who don’t practice them and are looking for something different from the inflated seaside resorts of the Atlantic,

4 reasons to go to Taghazout in Morocco

We have been to Taghazout and we will tell you why it is worth going there. For at least 4 reasons.

1. Taghazout is close to Agadir, but far from the chaos

Taghazout is 23 km from Agadir, but it seems like much more, it seems like another planet compared to the mega beach resorts of Rimini in Morocco.
Two different philosophies travel along the N1 coastal road that separates the two cities: on the one hand that of all-inclusive and small shopping centres, on the other the relaxation of a fishing village which despite the micro-tourism of surfing has remained genuine and on a human scale. Then, if you feel like a more lively evening, it’s just a 20-minute drive away.

2. Taghazout has many surf schools

Taghazout is a great spot to learn to surf. The Atlantic waves are not violent, and there are several small schools for surfing, SUP and other water sports. The best known is Surf Maroc, started by young English people who were the first to bet on Taghazout: now they also have a bar-restaurant and a small hotel.
But walking along the only (dirt) road in the town you come across others, all at affordable prices. Generally we travel with equipped vans to some beaches further north such as those of Tamri National Park looking for the right waves.

3. In Taghazout you relax and eat well

The presence of international surfers has developed little bars with a good culinary level. If in the rest of Morocco it is not easy to find vegetarian and vegan dishes, here it is possible. THE little bars overlooking the beach they are places you would never leave, especially after seeing the spectacle of the sunset over the ocean.

4. From Taghazout you can make beautiful trips to the surrounding area

From Taghazout you can hike mainly in two directions.
To the north, wanting up to Essaouira, follow the panoramic N1 which runs between the rugged coast and the green interior full of rivers. the advice is to drive until you come across beaches that inspire a dive. To get to Essaouira, the Moroccan surfing capital and splendid fortified city, you need a bit of motivation since it is 2 and a half hours away from Taghazout, but it’s worth it.
Another nice trip to take is the one to the Imouzzer waterfalls. You continue for 60 km between hairpin bends (allow 1 hour and a half) in the Paradise Valleya unique place in Morocco, where you come across mountain villages, dirt roads along the rivers and picturesque bars with tables in the water.
