Stuani: “I want to retire at Girona”

Uruguayan forward Cristhian Stuani cleared up this afternoon the shadows that were cast around his future at the end of August when he received an offer from Saudi Arabia and said his continuation at Montilivi was “uncertain”. The reality is that I am where I want to be. I am very clear. If I’m here it’s because I want to and the club wants it too. I love Girona and I continue to leave my soul in every game,” he made clear while recalling his words on Uruguayan radio. “If I said that, it’s because there are some situations that the club already knows about and that we will solve.”

Having said that, Stuani continued to talk about his love affair with Girona. So much so that for the first time he has said that he sees himself retiring from the club. “I have made the decision. It would be a dream to retire from Girona. I don’t know when it will be, because I still look good, with strength and competing at a good level,” he said. Stuani has a contract until 2026, he pointed out that it will depend “on the club”. “I am very grateful to the club. In the relegation year I decided to stay and they made an effort that I will never forget. I have always tried to bring that confidence back on the pitch and off it.” In this sense, Stuani has “assumed” that now it is his turn to play another role, not so much as a starter. “I have assumed this role of not always demanding to play. It is not easy, but I have done it and I help my teammates as much as I can,” he said. The Uruguayan remembers that “you have to touch the ground” in terms of the classification but reveals that he has set himself the personal goal of getting Girona into Europe. “I have it between my eyebrows. It would be a dream for me, for the club, for the city and for the whole environment. We don’t know what will happen but we will go out to win every game to achieve very ambitious goals.”
