Aitana Bonmatí, a 25-year-old Barcelona midfielder, was awarded the women’s Ballon d’Or as the best professional footballer in the world last season. Bonmatí had already been voted best player of the World Cup won in August with the Spanish national team and European player of the year by UEFA. In recent seasons you have also been among the protagonists of the many victories achieved by Barcelona, the team in which you grew up and for which you have always played.
The women’s Ballon d’Or has existed for five years. In fact, since 2018 it has joined the men’s one, awarded since 1956 by the French magazine France Football. Bonmatí is the second consecutive Barcelona player to win it, after Alexia Putellas, awarded in the previous two editions. Before that, the Norwegian Ada Hegerberg and the American Megan Rapinoe had won it.
