Spanish Cup “A” of Judo: Gokyo and Morales Clubs Compete in Cadet and Children’s Categories

The III Spanish Cup “A” of judo, in the cadet and children’s categories, was held in the Cantabrian town of Torrelavega this weekend. Judokas from the Gokyo Club and the Judo Morales club went there.

On Saturday the cadet competition began. On behalf of the Gokyo Judo Club, Rubén De Castro would attend in the -55kg category and Diego Bruña in the -81kg category. No one on this occasion had the option to enter the final battles.

On behalf of the Judo Club Judo Morales in the cadet category, Juan Meana attended in -55 kg and Noa Vicente in -57 kg, both first-year cadets. They had no luck in the draw and were left out of the fight for the medals.

His clubmate, Elena Bahamonde, had greater fortune at -48kg. She began her championship on the path to victory, reaching the quarterfinal match and when everything suggested that she would reach the semifinal, since Elena had an advantage on the scoreboard, an unforeseen action with 2 seconds remaining caused her rival to manage to turn around to the marker. Despite that setback, she knew how to overcome it and continued with her victories in the repechage until she reached the bronze medal match. In a very close fight, Elena could not overcome her rival, having to settle for 4th place. That position, however, gives her the first points for the National ranking and she slips into the top ten of said ranking.

On Sunday, the only child representative María Bahamonde had a very serious competition, finishing 3rd in her league, but unfortunately it was not enough to move on to the fight for the medals, since only the first two qualified.
