Carlos Forbs has now played for various Portugal youth teams, but could still choose another country. The nineteen-year-old Ajax player also has roots in Guinea-Bissau. According to The Guardian, Jack Coles, a scout from England, wants to try to ensure that the Ajax player changes his mind and plays for Guinea-Bissau in the short term.

Early in their international career, players can still switch countries, provided they have different nationalities. This is the case with Forbs: he has both Portuguese and Guinea-Bissau nationality.

So far he has played for Portuguese youth teams. In 25 international matches, he has managed to score four times on behalf of those teams. In September he made his debut for Young Portugal, in the European Championship qualifier against Young Andorra (3-0 win).

If it were up to Coles, Forbs would soon make the switch to Guinea-Bissau. In daily life, Coles is a recruitment analyst at Coventry City, but he also helps Guinea-Bissau scout players.

The reason why Coles chose Guinea-Bissau was that he discovered that the African country would perform significantly better compared to other countries if players with Guinea-Bissau roots had not chosen a different national team.

So now he is trying to convince players to make the switch. According to The Guardian, Forbs is also among the players on Coles’ list.

If Forbs does indeed opt for a switch, he will follow in the footsteps of Carlos Mané. The 29-year-old Kayserispor striker came through several Portugal youth teams, but made his debut for the Guinea-Bissau national team last month.
