Schalke 04 Footballer Yusuf Kabadayi Faces Backlash Over Pro-Palestine Social Media Post

Yusuf Kabadayi from Schalke 04 is causing a stir with a post on Instagram. The FC Bayern Munich loanee posted a story in which he made it clear that he is on the side of Palestine in the conflict between Palestine and Israel.

He shared a picture showing three raised fists, three Palestinian flags and the words “I Stand with Palestine.” After a short time he deleted the picture again.

Extremists from the terrorist organization Hamas violently invaded Israel at the weekend and injured, killed and kidnapped numerous innocent civilians. German citizens are said to be among the victims. The attack caused great consternation around the world.

Kabadayi’s club Schalke 04 was not very enthusiastic about the post. “Sports director André Hechelmann had telephone contact with the player immediately after becoming aware of it, who immediately understood that this post was inappropriate – and not just in view of the timing. After his return from the national team, those responsible will speak to him again in person to explain the potential implications of such a posting. The S04 has maintained a close friendship with the Gelsenkirchen Jewish community for many years, and we stand by their side. Our position as an association is clear and unwavering – we condemn the attacks on Israel and hope for a quick end to the war,” said the association.

The player himself explained himself on Instagram a little later and apologized.

“I would like to apologize for my post. That was thoughtless. I just wish that both sides can live peacefully. My condolences to all the victims. I am against all war and all kinds of oppression. I am Muslim and we do not stand for violence or terror. I support the innocent Muslims like all those who suffered in this war,” Kabadayi wrote on Instagram.

Schalke 04 had already positioned themselves clearly at the weekend and appeared with mourning ribbon in a joint action with opponents Hertha BSC.

It is still unclear whether the post will have consequences for Kabadayi; he will certainly suffer damage to his image. Things have been going brilliantly for the German U-20 international recently. The winger was one of the few bright spots at Schalke and scored in the last two games in the 2nd Bundesliga.

The 19-year-old is currently with the German U-20 national team, with whom he will face Portugal on Friday.
