Rugby: Ardie Savea voted best player in the world, five French people in the typical team of the year

The day after South Africa’s victory against New Zealand (12-11), World Rugby organized the World Rugby Awards ceremony this Sunday evening, to reward the best players of the season. Several French people were acclaimed. Five of them appear in the XV of the season.

Considered the best left pillar in the world, Cyril Baille was elected among his peers. He finds the Irish Dan Sheehan and Tadhg Furlong on the front line. Behind him, the two World Cup finalists, Eben Etzebeth and Scott Barrett, make up the second row. We once again find a Tricolor in the third row since Charles Ollivon was acclaimed, alongside Ardie Savea and the Irish Caelan Doris.

The hinge, particularly electric, is made up of Antoine Dupont and Richie Mo’unga. Behind them, the Irish center pair of Garry Ringrose and Bundee Aki, Grand Slam winners at the last Six Nations Tournament, were elected. The best try scorer of the World Cup, Will Jordan, is named best left winger of the season, as is Damian Penaud on the right. Brilliant with the Blues and Stade Toulouse, Thomas Ramos is the best full-back in the world.

However, no Frenchman won an individual title. Antoine Dupont, named in the category of best player of the year, was beaten by Ardie Savea, World Cup finalist with New Zealand. The revelation of the year prize was awarded to another All Black, Mark Tele’a, who stole it from Louis Bielle-Biarrey. Andy Farrell, Ireland’s coach, was named best coach of the season, a category in which Fabien Galthié did not appear.
