He will not be there at Panathinaikos Athens’ first away game in the Euroleague on Thursday (8:15 p.m., live magenta) – the talent has not (yet) been registered for the premier class.
The Bayern jewel is considered one of the greatest young talents in Germany; former coach Andrea Trinchieri had already promoted the shooting guard: He celebrated his short professional debut in 2022 and has held the BBL record since then: the youngest scorer in league history.

Bayern coach Laso enthuses: “He’s doing a great job. There are a lot of good players coming up in Germany. The U18, in which Ivan Kharchenkov played, was very strong at the European Championships (third place; editor’s note) and all players can still develop well. I believe German basketball has a bright future ahead of it.”

The 1.98 meter man has an absolute privilege in Munich! As a basketball player, he lives on the FCB campus, the talent factory for young footballers. And sleeps in Bavarian bed linen.

Born in Moscow, the talent grew up in Landsberg am Lech (70 kilometers from Munich). Father Alexander became world champion with the then Soviet Union in 1974. Brother Nikita (19 years older) is also a professional basketball player. He played for a total of twelve clubs in the three top leagues in Germany. But the way to training in Munich was long and the commute was strenuous. That’s why Bayern reacted and brought the youngster to the football boarding school. He even sleeps there in Bavarian bed linen!

“My father had a reputation. I never saw him play, but when we went to a hall somewhere, in Munich or somewhere else, people knew him, people came and talked to him. That inspired me. I also want people to know me,” says Ivan on the FC Bayern Basketball homepage.
