Referees in Liga MX to Use NFL-style Explanation System

The president of the Referees Commission, Armando Archundiahas confirmed that a system will be implemented in the Liga MX that will allow referees to explain their decisions with a model similar to that used in the NFL.

This system has been tested in international tournaments and is expected to debut in multiple leagues around the world. The new system will allow referees to explain decisions directly in the stadium through a microphone.

When a referee conducts a review, he or she will return to the field and provide an audible explanation of his or her decision. This will give viewers the opportunity to better understand the plays and the refereeing decision-making process.

The FIFA had previously announced that this system would be tested at various levels. During the Club World Cup and the Women’s World Cupthe referees had to resort to WAS and then address the audience to explain their decisions after reviewing the plays on the Video arbitration.

Although the exact date of the global implementation of this system has not been specified, the president of the Mexican Referees Commission has begun to describe how this initiative will be carried out in Mexican soccer.
