Quinten Timber Thriving at Feyenoord: Midfielder Reflects on Development and Success

Quinten Timber feels good at Feyenoord. The midfielder is developing excellently this season and says he made the switch last summer. In conversation with NOS, the 22-year-old Utrecht native indicates that he has taken steps in his first year at Feyenoord.

“Yes, I am feeling good indeed,” Timber begins. The midfielder is making good steps in his development. “Certainly and that is ultimately what it is all about when you look back at a year ago and now. Then you want to have made progress, as a person and as a football player. I have experienced many injuries, not played, but I have played. I can I can say for a moment that I am satisfied with my development.”

Last season, Timber was acquired from FC Utrecht for a record amount. Mats Wieffer started in Rotterdam and Timber could not always count on playing time in Arne Slot’s team. This season, Wieffer and Timber are together in midfield, with success. “Yes, I think a lot has changed, but it’s true. We played the Champions League matches with Ramiz (Zerrouki ed.) and Mats together in midfield. Ultimately, that mainly involves spending training hours and playing matches together to get to know each other. to understand better. Then you will automatically get better together. I have known Mats for a while, I still had to get to know the other one, but that is getting better. I also think that it will only get better,” says Timber.

Praise also comes from other Premier League clubs for the Rotterdam team’s midfield. PEC Zwolle captain Bram van Polen recently called Timber a ‘monster’. “Yes? He said that,” smiles Timber. “That’s nice to hear. I train a lot. That’s also one of my strengths: I’m strong. Maybe that’s what he meant.”

A ‘Breakfast Club’ has emerged in Feyenoord’s selection. “That is a group of boys, which has now become a somewhat larger group, who are already in the gym before breakfast and working on things that you need to get better at physically. It is different for every player, but now it is really a permanent group If you want to participate, you can come and you have to get up early every morning. If you are not there, you will be tackled and you will be punished. In the beginning it is your own initiative, but if you participate, you participate and then you have to continue to participate. When you see the other boys, you only want to get better yourself and always want to be the best.”
