Qian Hongyan: From Amputee to Paralympic Swimmer – A Story of Perseverance and Triumph

Qian Hongyan, a girl from Yunnan who was born in 1996, had her legs amputated due to a car accident when she was 4 years old. In order for her to continue going to school, her grandfather cut the old basketball in the middle and padded it with cotton. From then on, half of the basketball became her “legs”.

When she was 11 years old, she joined the Yunnan Provincial Disabled Swimming Team. A basketball girl from the mountains swam into the Paralympic Games with her hands.

Now, she will participate in the upcoming Asian Para Games in Hangzhou as a member of the Chinese delegation.
