Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and defending champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy–Chirag Shetty will spearhead India’s challenge at the French Open 2023 badminton in Rennes starting on Tuesday.
The French Open 2023 will be played on the badminton courts of the Glaz Arena. All matches will be available on live streaming in India.
Results at the French Open 2023, a BWF Super 750 event, will also count towards qualifying rankings for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
PV Sindhu’s 2023 badminton season started with three successive first-round defeats. However, the 2019 world champion showed signs of good form by making it to the semi-finals in the previous two BWF events – the Arctic Open and the Denmark Open.
PV Sindhu will be accompanied by Aakarshi Kashyap in the women’s singles event in Rennes.
World No. 1 men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are the defending champions in men’s doubles. The Indian badminton players won the gold medal at the Asian Games 2023 and will be fresh for a challenge after giving the Denmark Open a miss.
Indian players will not compete in the women’s and mixed doubles events.
Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen and former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth will lead India’s challenge in men’s singles in the absence of the injured HS Prannoy, India’s highest-ranked player at world No. 7.
Priyanshu Rajawat, who reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open BWF Super 500 event earlier this year, will also compete in the men’s singles.
Where to watch French Open 2023 badminton live in India
Live streaming of French Open 2023 badminton matches will be available on the Badminton World Federation’s official YouTube channel BWF TV. The event will not be telecast live on any TV channels in India.
