Puerto Rico’s Women’s 3×3 Basketball Team Advances to Semifinals at Santiago 2023 Pan American Games

The women’s National 3×3 Basketball Team won today 20-16 in the final against Mexico to advance to the semifinal round of the tournament at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. Its counterpart from the men’s branch, for its part, will try to equal the feat later today.

The women’s team, which debuted on Saturday with an easy 22-11 victory over Jamaica, defeated Venezuela earlier today by the same result. Mari Plácido led the Puerto Ricans’ offense with eight points, followed by seven points from Ashley Torres. Annelisse Vargas contributed five and Paola Maldonado two.

Meanwhile, in the quarterfinal match they won against Mexico 20-16, guided by eight points from Vargas and five from Torres. This Monday, at 4:30 pm in Puerto Rico time, they will have their clash for a place in the final against Colombia.

Meanwhile, in the men’s category, the Puerto Ricans were defeated today, Sunday night, 21-18 against Venezuela, to be eliminated and not be able to advance to the semifinal round in their branch.

Puerto Rico had just beaten the Dominican Republic 21-14 earlier today to advance to the quarterfinals. On Saturday, they knocked Trinidad and Tobago off the field 21-6. Against the Dominicans, Adrián Ocasio was the best with eight points. Leandro Allende followed him with six, Guillermo Díaz with five and Jorge Matos with two.
