PSG’s Disappointing Start in Ligue 1 Raises Concerns

In Clermont, PSG suffered another disappointment this season. The Parisians conceded a 0-0 draw against the bottom team, dropping two new points in the standings. This is indeed the club’s worst start under the QSI era.

A balanced, attractive team with a coach with solid convictions. The 2023-2024 version of PSG should reverse everything in its passage to Ligue 1. However, the results of the Parisians have never been so bad paradoxically. On Saturday, PSG disappointed once again by conceding a 0-0 draw at bottom of the standings Clermont. Two new points dropped en route by Luis Enrique’s men, who have only won three times in 7 championship matches. Third with 12 points, the Parisian club has indeed missed its start to the season from an accounting perspective.

PSG’s worst start in L1 since 2011

Indeed, with such a low number of points, PSG is having its worst start to the season at this stage under the Qatari era. The last time the Parisian club obtained so few points was in 2010-2011 when Robin Leproux was president and Antoine Kombouaré was coach. The Parisians then had 11 points and were fifth in Ligue 1.

Further proof of Parisian difficulties, PSG has not once been leader of Ligue 1 since the first day. Nothing alarming, however, since the Parisians will only be a maximum of 4 points behind the first if Brest wins in Nice this Sunday. Above all, this statistic will already be forgotten if PSG achieves a result at Newcastle on Wednesday. For now, and this is the most important thing, PSG is on pace in the Champions League. The fact remains that we must not waste too much in Ligue 1 so as not to create an avoidable problem because 2017 and 2021 showed that PSG was viable in the championship.
