Příbram Coach Karel Krejčí: From Near-Firing to Four Consecutive Victories

Příbram coach Karel Krejčí admits that about five weeks ago, the coach’s chair was already swaying strongly under him. “I was almost fired. And the boys had their heads very low back then. During the break, however, they organized team building, which visibly benefited them. We said a lot of things back then. Some players caught up with physics. And we spent a lot of time with the video,” he recalled.

Then came the duel with the B team Sparta, which Příbramští decided with a goal in the setup. “It was with great luck. However, the mood in the team improved significantly and morale went up. The team really got down. We added wins on the Táborsk pitch and over Chrudim. And now in Brno,” Krejčí considers three points from the Zbrojovka stadium, which was still active in the first league in the spring.

According to him, all the last Příbram matches were very similar. “We win thanks to teamwork, honesty and fighting spirit. The guys work one hundred percent. We are capable of winning with one or two goals scored. But it’s quite nerve-wracking every time,” smiled the former coach of the Czech 21-year-old.

The last duel of Příbram footballers in the Moravian capital was also in a similar spirit. In the first half, midfielder Nečas scored a great shot from a distance, and then the Central Bohemian team defended the narrow lead.

“We took advantage of the fact that the people of Brno are not in a very good mood at the moment and that they were missing several injured and carded players. The armory is going through a personnel change, which apparently takes time. But I’m a fan because the second largest city definitely belongs in the top competition,” says the fifty-four-year-old Krejčí.

In terms of points, both teams are currently exactly the same in the second league table. “We are happy that we can now spend the second national team break in peace. I will curb the euphoria during it. I am going to appeal to the players to stay humble. And we are looking forward to the fact that striker Wágner will soon join the training after injury,” he is looking forward to the return of the experienced forward, who in the past played in the first league for Plzeň, Mlada Boleslav, Jablonec, Karvina and Zlín.

Krejčí also worked at Viktoria Plzeň and in 2016 he led it to the championship title in the role of head coach. “Then we won sixteen times in a row. That’s a lot more than the current four victories in a row in Příbram. But I am also extremely happy for them. I don’t even know when was the last time something like this happened here,” he claimed.
