Paralympic Training Center to Host Brazilian Badminton Championships

The Paralympic Training Center will welcome the best badminton athletes in Brazil this week. The venue will host the VIII Brazilian Championship of the sport, between the 17th and 20th of October. In addition to adult tournament, the capital of São Paulo will also bring together young players in the III “Diego Mota” Under-23 Brazilian Championship.

One of the highlights of the competition will be Paraná Victor Tavares, class SH6 (short stature). Fourth placed at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, an opportunity in which he was the only Brazilian athlete in the sport, Vitor had just become champion in the singles bracket at the Australian International.

In the decision, he defeated Wong Chun Yim, born in Hong Kong, by 2 sets to 0. In the first part, the Paraná native beat his rival 22 to 20. In the second, Vitor secured an undefeated victory, without losing a single set in the entire competition, with a 21-8 triumph. With the title, he rose to second place in the world rankings.

The Paraná native was one of the 31 Brazilian players called up to make up the Brazilian badminton team nos Santiago Parapan American Games, Chile, which will take place from November 17th to 26th.

Another member called up for the continental event, in the SH6 class and registered in the Brazilian Championship, is Vinícius de Oliveira from São Paulo, who began his career in the Paralympic Sports School of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB). The project introduces children and young people aged 7 to 17 in Paralympic sports, completely free of charge. In addition to Vinícius, seven more athletes from Escolinha, as the program is affectionately called, will be in the national tournament.
