Dany Boon’s trauma, fueled by his mother

In an interview with Mireille Dumas, the actor spoke about his protruding ears as rarely. A physical characteristic that is difficult to bear, especially since his mother, Danièle Ducatel, had not necessarily handled the subject in the best possible way:

She put a rubber band on me when I was a kid, when I was a baby. She told me that all the time. She gave me the complex of my protruding ears.

A particularly violent sentence for a child or adolescent to hear even came up regularly:

She said to me: “You are beautiful but it’s a shame. We would have money, we would have you operated. You’re so beautiful…except for that. I succeeded in everything except that.” She put that in my head.

Clumsy ? Yes. Regrettable? Certainly. But ultimately, these words are not much compared to the affection that Dany Boon has for his mother. A bond reinforced by the fact that Danièle was banished by her family after becoming pregnant at 17 by a Kabyle man who was significantly older than her. On TF1, he explained:

For her, it was very difficult to experience this rejection. I have memories… We went to my uncle’s wedding and she wasn’t allowed to cross the street. They were leaving city hall and we were in the parking lot opposite. We were dressed in our Sunday best, and my mother was crying. She saw her brother getting married, she was not allowed to cross the street.

Seeing my mother suffer, I said to myself: “I have to make her laugh so that she gets better.” Laughter has been a remedy for everything, and every time.

It is not always easy to weigh your words as a parent, and there is no doubt that Danièle Ducatel could surely have avoided making such comments to her son. Despite everything, Dany Boon managed the feat of making his face a strength. Above all, this little trifle is only a drop in the bucket in the strong relationship between the actor and his mother. And that’s the main thing.
