OM-OL: 465 police officers, six injured, nine arrests… The figures for incidents around the Olympico

It’s time to take stock. The day after the serious incidents surrounding the Olympico this Sunday evening, we know a little more about the number of people involved and injured during the various bus stonings and clashes with the police.

Before the match, the police headquarters had anticipated potential excesses since the National Division for the Fight against Hooliganism had reported the match as a match classified level 4. In this context, an important security system was put in place including 465 elements of the police, according to police sources.

The Minister of the Interior mentioned this Monday morning on BFMTV/RMC, a more rounded figure of “500 police officers and gendarmes” to secure this match. For him, there was “no failure” on the part of the police, and that it was “up to the club to manage its supporters”.

A CRS hit with a baseball bat

During the events, the police reported various projectiles being thrown at the buses of players and supporters, leaving seven injured in total, including OL coach Fabio Grosso, who had a bloody face when he got off the bus. In addition to the bus transporting the players, six Lyon buses were attacked between 7:20 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. this Sunday evening, again according to police sources. During these stones, the police intervened to free the buses, while preventing Lyon fans from getting out of the vehicles to try to come to blows.

During these clashes, a CRS was hit with a baseball bat by an OL supporter. Hit in the neck, the police officer lost consciousness and was taken to hospital without his state of health being considered worrying. The perpetrator was arrested and placed in police custody for “violence against a person holding public authority”. In total, six police officers including 5 CRS were slightly injured. Gérald Darmanin reacted this Monday by indicating that these incidents were “unacceptable”, and had given rise to “nine arrests”.
