Who says new NBA season says a little update on everyone’s finances. Whoever plays thrifty, who gives his banker sweats, who is downright in the red, we take stock franchise by franchise. Today, it’s time for the New York Knicks.

Financial situation in relation to salary cap

The Luxury Tax threshold is set at 165,294,000$ this year. The NBA Salary Cap is set at 136,021,000$ this year.

With $163,580,200 contractually committed to this 2023-24 season, the New York Knicks managed to complete a serious summer in Free Agency without putting themselves in the red. For this they can thank Josh Hart, who took his player option before extending it a few weeks later. Evan Fournier’s 18 million per year has a good chance of disappearing from the accounts soon. All that remains is to find a willing team.

Players under guaranteed contracts for the 2024-25 season:

Julius Randle
Jalen Brunson
R.J. Barrett
Mitchell Robinson
Josh Hart
Donte DiVincenzo

All the frames in the group are locked or almost. There remains the extension of Immanuel Quickley to manage. Quentin Grimes and Jericho Sims will also be there next year via team options.

Three players to watch this season:

Immanuel Quickley : it’s the number one file on Leon Rose’s desk. After a very promising third NBA season coming off the bench, Immanuel Quickley is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He will therefore be able to test the market in the summer of 2024 and we imagine that he will receive nice offers. New York still has control over the matter since the Knicks will be able to align with all the proposals.

Quentin Grimes : another one who passed a milestone last season, to the point of relegating Evan Fournier to the bench. We are also waiting to see what his ceiling will be. He too will be eligible for an extension next summer but New York can also wait until 2025 to sign him a new deal. An excellent 3-point shooter, we know it’s worth a lot on the market.

Evan Fournier : we end with our national vavane, to whom we do not wish a new season on the sidelines every evening. We thought we would see him transferred at the time of the Draft or during Free Agency but at the time of writing, Fournier is still on the Knicks roster. New York will probably try to transfer him during the season but due to a lack of offers, they could also wait until next summer, not activate the team option and let him go free.
