Naco Sports Club Wins First Place in Naco International Judo Cup

The representation of the Naco Sports Club retained its champion crown by winning first place in the Naco International Judo Cup, held yesterday to a full house in the Volleyball Pavilion of the Olympic Center, with six countries and more than 500 athletes, a fair dedicated to Mrs. Esther Ferreras de Pereyra, mother and collaborator who belonged to the Judo Parents Association for many years.

The Naqueños captured a total of 17 gold medals, 10 silver and 17 bronze medals for a total of 44 medals. The Judo Parents Association of the Naco club organized the fair. The immortal Juan Chalas was the technical director along with his team of collaborators.

Mario Álvarez Soto, the president of the Board of Directors, representing each of its members and the membership, sent a warm congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, technicians and the Parents Association, for such arduous and fruitful competitive work and organizational.

In the 2022 version, the Naco Club was the Grand Champion by winning some 17 gold medals, four silver, 13 bronze (1,753 points).

The Alajuela Judo team from Costa Rica finished in second place with five gold, nine silver and 13 bronze to register 27 medals.

Third place went to the Chief Pride team from the United States, which finished with five gold, five silver and three bronze medals for a total of 14 medals.

Madelaine Andino, first vice, Luis Brea, treasurer and Miguel Then, second vice, as well as the Sports Director, Manuel Díaz Coronado, among others, were providing all their support to the Judo contest.

They competed in the categories Benjamin (5-6 years), Pre-Infantile A and B (7-8 years and 9-10 years), Infantile A and B (11-12 years and 13-14 years) Cadets (15 years to 17 years) Junior (18 years to 20 years) in both the male and female branches.

The countries that took action were Chile, Colombia, Haiti, the United States, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica.

The sensei, Juan Chalas, technical director of the fair and Bertha García, president of the Judo Parents Association of the Naco club, affirmed that everything was a success, both organizationally and competitively.

In the Naco Judo International Cup, athletes from the Judo Associations of the provinces of Independencia, Azua, San Juan, Barahona, San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, Monte Plata, La Romana, San Pedro, María Trinidad Sánchez, Monseñor Noue, competed. Duarte, Santiago, La Vega.

Also the District Clubs, Judo UASD, Casa Nacional Judo Club, Villa Francisca Judo Club, Tavárez Judo, BAMESO Judo Club, Matsunaga Dojo, Kosen Dojo. It is estimated that more than 100 International judokas will participate at the moment.
