“Convincingly shown remorse”: The football club warns its professional after his pro-Palestine post and reintegrates him into the team. The people of Mainz don’t make it easy for themselves when it comes to reaching a verdict.

FSV Mainz 05 warns Anwar El Ghazi, but plans to work with him again. Almost two weeks after the Bundesliga club released the striker, who was signed in mid-September, because of his anti-Israel Instagram posts, he is due to start training and playing again these days.

“In my almost six-year term in office, this was the most difficult decision,” said club and board chairman Stefan Hofmann at the general meeting on Monday evening, “because it is not only made in the microcosm of Mainz 05, but we have to take the entire world situation into account.”
