In the interview, the managing director of the Baden-Württemberg State Sports Association, Ulrich Derad, talks about the elite sports reform, the social impact of sport and the weaknesses of PotAS.

Mr. Derad, the Baden-Württemberg State Sports Association has strongly criticized the top-level sports reform. Is the Southwest getting out?

No, we don’t want to put it that drastically. But it would be important to rethink the approach. Shouldn’t we first have a debate about goals, then formulate a sports funding law and use that to talk about the consequences? We now have a concept, the law should follow, and the goals should be discussed at some point when the agency is founded. One can get the impression that this should be implemented as quickly as possible because it is stipulated in the coalition agreement, instead of taking the time that is necessary.
