Good afternoon and welcome to the LIVE LIVE of the first day of competitions of the third stage of the Swimming World Cup scheduled in Budapest, Hungary. The Italian contingent is growing significantly in view of the last stage of the World Cup scheduled in Budapest from Friday to Sunday. Nicolò Martinenghi and Thomas Ceccon they will still be at the start with ambitions of a podium for the former (who has never managed to finish the five races held so far in one of the top three positions) and even a podium in the general classification for the latter (five victories and a second place for him in the six races played so far).

Together with the two Italian protagonists of the first two stages of the traveling circuit organized by World Aquatics, there will be another six Italians at the start at the Duna Arena in Budapest who will try their luck in the breaststroke and freestyle competitions. The headlights are aimed above all Benedetta Pilate who, after the world championship bronze in the 50m breaststroke in Fukuoka, is once again increasing her range of action and once again targeting the Olympic competition, the 100m breaststroke, of which she was world champion at the Duna Arena in 2022. For her, therefore , an important step, this stage of the World Cup, before dedicating himself for a short period to the short course (he will also be at the start at Nico Sapio) in view of the European Championships in Otopeni.

Nicolò Martinenghi is joined by another blue frog specialist, Federico Poggio, fresh from the unsatisfactory World Cup in Fukuoka. For him the 2024 objective is twofold, the World Cup in Doha in February and the Olympic Games in Paris where he is chasing the second qualification and a step higher than in Tokyo when he reached the semi-final. For him too, Budapest is an important long course test. The sprinters’ group instead seeks confirmation after a fairly intense period of work. The Azzurri will try to gain as many places as possible in the final in the 100 and 50 freestyle but some variations on the theme cannot be ruled out, perhaps to be decided at the last moment. At the start there will be Alessandro Miressi, Leonardo Deplano, Lorenzo Zazzeri and Manuel Frigo, on paper, together with Thomas Ceccon, the most important members of the 4×100 freestyle relay team that will try to confirm itself on the Olympic podium in Paris 2024.

On the first day the program includes the men’s and women’s 400m freestyle, the men’s and women’s 50m freestyle, the women’s 50m backstroke, the men’s 200m backstroke, the women’s 200m butterfly, the men’s 100m butterfly, the women’s 200m breaststroke and the men’s 100m breaststroke.

OA Sport offers you the LIVE LIVE of the first day of competitions of the third stage of the Swimming World Cup scheduled in Budapest, Hungary: real-time news and constant updates. It starts at 17.30 with the session dedicated to the finals. Good fun!
