Lionel Messi won his eighth Ballon d’Or. Leo won the 2023 edition of the award, which was based in Paris. After winning the trophy, he spoke to the press and had time to join the live broadcast of Ibai Llanos. The world champion has a good relationship with the Spaniard but made a strong complaint to him live.

“Leo, you are very tired. Congratulations and enjoy it very much,” the streamer began. To which Messi responded energetically: “Thank you, but I’m still angry with you, I didn’t like what you did the other day.”
And on that line he continued: “That thing about you sending a message and making everything public. I’m not going to answer you anymore because you make everything public. You have no privacy. I answered you well, in a good way, and you read me in front of everyone. You didn’t show it but you said it. Next time I won’t answer you again, I’ll keep an eye on you.”
To which Ibai tried several times to explain that he didn’t have that intention, he even included Kun Agüero who taught him how to do that. After Leo’s anger, the streamer changed the subject, Messi smiled at Ibai’s maneuver and told how he felt about winning the Ballon d’Or.

The 2023 Ballon d’Or was left in the hands of Lionel Messi, after beating players like Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland in the vote. Leo was one of the big favorites for the award after winning it at the Qatar 2022 World Cup. He won the previous ones in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019 and 2022.
Upon receiving the award, Leo thanked his teammates on the Argentine National Team and his family; and he dedicated it to Maradona: “I want to make one last mention of Diego: today is his birthday, there is no better place to honor him than here, surrounded by players and football. Wherever you are, happy birthday, Diego. I share it with you and with all of Argentina.”
