Leylah Fernandez (WTA No. 60) reached the semifinals at the tournament in Hong Kong.

The Canadian beat the Czech Linda Fruhvirtova 7:6 (2), 6:2 in a meeting between two youngsters and is now in the round of the last four. Finally again: Fernandez last managed this at WTA level in March 2022, at the tournament in Monterrey (which she won in the end).
Fernandez had benefited from Victoria Azarenka’s submission along the way and then defeated the young Mirra Andreeva. She now meets Anna Blinkova.
The second semi-final will be played by Martina Trevisan (6:4, 6:3 against Elise Mertens) and the winner of the game between Katerina Siniakova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
Fernandez sensationally reached the final of the US Open in 2021, where she lost to Emma Raducanu. She has since slipped in the rankings from her career high of 13th place last year. However, if she made it to the final she would return to the top 50.
