Lechner wins bronze in the 8-ball at the home World Cup

Maximilian Lechner was the last Austrian to be eliminated in the semi-finals of the 8-ball competition at the home World Cup in Klagenfurt’s sports park. The Tyrolean had to admit defeat to Sanjin Pehlivanovic 8:10 in the fight for a place in the final on Saturday evening, but was therefore assured of the bronze medal. Lechner secured precious metal for the first time in global title fights in the general class.

The Bosnian Pehlivanovic had previously defeated Vorarlberg’s Mario He 10:7 in the quarter-finals and will now face Shane Van Boening in the final on Sunday. The American eliminated the Spanish defending champion Francisco Sanchez Ruiz 10:5 in the quarterfinals.

For Lechner, the day also started well in the round of the last eight with a 10:6 win over the Japanese Hayato Hijikata before being eliminated against the world number 17. Pehlivanovic came. Lechner can console himself with prize money of 17,500 dollars (16,500 euros), he gets half.
