Laura Siegemund Reaches Quarterfinals at WTA Tournament in Zhengzhou

Laura Siegemund reached her second quarter-final of the season at the WTA tournament in Zhengzhou, China.

The 35-year-old won on Thursday after losing the first set 3:6, 6:2, 6:1 against eleventh seed Liudmila Samsonova, who had eliminated Tatjana Maria in the first round two days earlier.

In the fight for the semi-finals, qualifier Siegemund will face Italian Jasmine Paolini.

Next week she will also return to the top 100 in the world rankings for the first time in around two years.

So far this season, Siegemund has only made it past the round of 16 on the WTA tour in July at the tournament in Warsaw, where she only failed in the final against French Open winner Iga Swiatek (Poland).

In addition to Maria, Tamara Korpatsch was also eliminated in the first round in Zhengzhou, and no other German players were at the start.
