Latvia won one bronze medal at the European Cadet Judo Cup in Riga

Aleksandrs Avdejevs was the only Latvian judo wrestler to win a medal at the European Cadet Judo Cup held in Riga this weekend, getting the bronze award.

Avdeev, who competed in the weight category up to 73 kilograms, was free from the first round, but lost in the second to an athlete from Canada, who won the subgroup.

Avdejev got the opportunity to compete in the consolation tournament, where he defeated the athlete from Ukraine, the domestic judoka Raivi Japinas, as well as representatives from Azerbaijan and Lithuania, beating the southern neighbor Arturas Boyarovich in the bronze duel.

Maksym Bulayev (-66 kg), Yelysej Bumazhkin (-81 kg), Sofia Ponomaryova (-63 kg), Nikita Afansyev (-90 kg) and Anastasiya Isaeva (-70 kg) were also close to the awards.

309 participants from 21 countries had applied for the European Cup stage, including 43 local judokas.

The competition took place on Saturday and Sunday at the Ķīpsala exhibition center BT.
