Kyler Murray’s return to practice: A positive sign, but Cardinals taking it slow

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is on the road to recovery and making significant strides in his comeback from ACL surgery.

On WednesdayMurray was a full participant in practice, according to the team’s mid-week practice report.

Cardinals being cautious with Murray

Coach Jonathan Gannon expressed his intention earlier in the day to have Murray on the practice field, saying, “We will get him out there today and see where it goes.”

However, this positive development doesn’t necessarily mean Murray is poised to suit up and start in the Cardinals’ Week 8 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Cardinals are taking a cautious approach to Murray’s return, as reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

The team has no rush in bringing him back to action to prevent any potential setbacks.

In Murray’s absence, Joshua Dobbs has been performing capably, giving Arizona the flexibility to be patient with their star quarterback.

During Wednesday’s practice, Murray primarily worked with practice-squad pass catchers.

No definitive timetable for Murray’s return

While the return of Kyler Murray is a significant step forward, the team’s priority is to ensure his long-term health and readiness.

The primary goal is to evaluate how he fits into the new coaching staff’s system and the future of the Cardinals with Murray at the helm.

The ultimate milestone will be Murray’s official readiness to play, with a potential return as early as November 5when the Cardinals face the Cleveland Browns.

Last week, Coach Gannon had stated that Murray was a “full go” when he was designated to return, but he was limited during his first week back on the field.

Over the course of three practices, Murray’s status has been upgraded.

Gannon remained tight-lipped when addressing the media, emphasizing the team’s focus on their usual processes.

The Cardinals have until November 9 to activate Murray to the roster, but an earlier activation could indicate his readiness to return to game action.

The coming Saturday’s roster moves will be crucial to watch for Murray’s status.
