Kulesza surprised. He clashed with Touchstone. Football has never talked about this before

On Thursday, Michał Probierz made his debut as the coach of the Polish national team. His team won away against the Faroe Islands (2-0) after goals by Sebastian Szymański and Adam Buksa.

He replaced the dismissed Fernando Santos as the coach of the Polish national team. The 51-year-old seemed a natural candidate to take over the job after the Portuguese. Not only because he led the Polish U-21 national team and knew our players, but also because he had already cooperated with the president of the Polish Football Association, Cezary Kulesza.

Both men knew each other from their time working together at Jagiellonia Białystok. They met there for the first time in 2008, when Probierz became the first team coach. Kulesza, who talked to “Przegląd Sportowy”, revealed how the coach was hired.

– Even before 2008, we wanted to bring him to Jagiellonia. We were captivated by his charisma and decisiveness. (…) A new team was created. In 2009, it turned out that due to the activities of the previous presidents, Jagiellonia would start the next season with minus 10 points. Michał immediately called a meeting with the team and said: “We are fighting until the end. We can make up for it. I believe in all of you.” The team played well, climbed up and eventually took 11th place. We were only three points short of the sixth team in the league, recalled Kulesza.

“If you don’t change, I’ll probably leave because I can’t stand it anymore.”

The current president of the Polish Football Association also revealed that their first cooperation could have ended after just two months. – Michał came and said that he would probably leave Jagiellonia because it was difficult for him to work with me. He can’t stand it and that’s why he wants to quit. We had a lot of conversations then, hard conversations. Michał said: “If you don’t change, I’ll probably leave because I can’t stand it anymore,” said Kulesza, who at that time was the club’s sports advisor.

Touchstone’s first term at Jagiellonia ended after the 2010/11 season. As Kulesza revealed, it could have ended a moment earlier. In May 2011, Jagiellonia lost 0-2 to Polonia Warszawa, and after the match Probierz resigned.

– Michał came to me and said that he would no longer lead the team. I let him cool down for a few hours, met with him and convinced him to continue his mission – revealed the current president of the Polish Football Association.

Touchstone returned to Jagiellonia in 2014, where he spent the next three years. In the 2016/17 season, he was one step away from winning the Polish championship, ultimately winning the silver medal. After his second term at Jagiellonia, he spent four years at Cracovia, then joined the Polish youth national team.
