Kevin Huerter Embraces Defensive Challenge to Secure Spot on Sacramento Kings Roster

Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown has challenged Kevin Huerter to be tougher on defense in order to maintain his status on the team and not lose weight in the rotation.

After breaking a streak of 16 consecutive seasons without making the playoffs, the California franchise will try to continue growing in the Western Conference and address the cracks they showed last year. And the main point is the defense: despite registering the best attack in the entire NBA, the Kings fell to 24th position in defensive ratio.

Improving this facet will be the work of the entire group, but Brown has had a special impact on Huerter. A challenge that the shooting guard has accepted with ambition. “I’m not worried about the offensive section at this moment,” said Huerter, according to the media. The Sacramento Bee. “As you’ve all heard throughout this preseason, our main goal, as a team and individually, is to be better on the other side of the court.”

The 2022-23 season was the best in Huerter’s career, as he recorded his highest points in scoring (15.2 points) and field goal success (48.5%). However, he says balancing the Kings’ offensive potential and shifting efforts toward the defensive end will be paramount to success. «We know what we are capable of in attack. We simply have to keep working, make the right decisions and do what we are supposed to do on the other side of the court,” said the player.
