Karel Geraerts Leads Schalke 04 to First Victory, Mulder Applauds Revolutionary Changes

After a meeting in Extra Time, Youri Mulder tipped Karel Geraerts at Schalke 04.

Last week, Geraerts crashed on the Kalsruher field on his debut as Schalke coach. “That was of course annoying, but a first match is always difficult,” says Mulder, who sits on the supervisory board at Schalke.

Geraerts achieved his first success on Saturday, under the approving eye of no fewer than 62,000 Schalke fans. A 3-2 win against Hannover.

“There is still a lot of room for improvement in the game,” Mulder analyzes. “But you can already see the accents that Geraerts puts.”

“After last week, he made major changes to the team: there were 6 new players at the kick-off. A permanent force like Baumgartl started on the bench.”

“Everyone starts from 0. Geraerts does not look at names, but at what is best for the team.”

An approach that, according to Mulder, often occurs with teams in danger of relegation, because Schalke 04 is in 16th place in the German 2nd division.

“Geraerts focuses on players with character, who can also handle it physically. Fortunately, that worked out well on Saturday.”

Tonight Geraerts has to play with Schalke 04 in the German Cup against St. Pauli (the leader in the 2nd division). A competition match in Nürnberg is scheduled for Saturday.
