LOS ANGELES — The quarterback of the Chargers, Justin Herbert, He fractured the middle finger on his left hand, the team confirmed Monday.

The injury, to Herbert’s non-handling hand, occurred in the third quarter of Sunday’s 24-17 victory over the Raiders.

The coach of the Chargers, Brandon Staley, described Herbert as a “difficult customer” on Monday. He said that Herbert is expected to not take the majority of his snaps, and that they are going to “change him up as much as we can.”

The bye week comes at a perfect time for the Chargers, who were also without three of their best players: running back Austin Thanks, the outside linebacker Joey Bosa and the safety Derwin James Jr. on Sunday. They will play against Dallas Cowboys in Week 6.

“I think the first thing on our list is just getting some rest,” Staley said, “and making sure we get a fresh group coming to Dallas that’s hungry. That’s ready to play a quality game against a quality team.”
