Barcelona, winner of the Champions League, the Spanish Cup and the European Super Cup, was chosen as the best women’s club of the year at the Ballon d’Or gala in Paris.
Its president, Joan Laporta, collected the award accompanied by the team’s coach, Jonatan Giráldez from Vigo, and the player Patri Guijarro.
“I thank ‘France Football’ for this distinction. I remember all those who throughout the history of Barcelona have worked for the future of Barça women,” said Laporta, and said that the award belongs “to the players, the coach, the sports director and the manager Xavi Puig”.
He also sent a message of thanks to “partners and fans.”
Giráldez highlighted the “hard work and will to improve” of the squad and “the experience that allows them to overcome adverse moments.”
“It is a pride and a privilege to be able to coach them,” said the coach.
Guijarro, for his part, referred to the team’s improvement in recent years and attributed it to “everyone’s ambition to want to improve.”
