The lawyer of the soccer player Jenni Hermoso has requested a confrontation between the marketing director of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Ruben Rivera, and the friend who accompanied her on the trip to Ibiza and who would have witnessed the pressure that she claims to have suffered to justify the kiss that Luis Rubiales, former president of the RFEF, gave her.
The legal representation of the international player has sent a letter to the National Court, to which EFE had access this Friday, in which it requests this investigative procedure based on “the discrepancy between the statements of both.”
Jenni Hermoso’s lawyer considers that the confrontation is appropriate and “relevant” since the statements that both gave before the judge – that of Rivera as a defendant – “are of notable importance in determining the guilt of the investigated person as there are no other feasible means of proof for his investigation.”
Rubén Rivera is being investigated in the National Court for the alleged coercion that Jenni Hermoso and her entourage claim to have suffered to make her publicly say that the kiss on the mouth that former RFEF president Luis Rubiales gave her after the World Cup final in Sydney (Australia) was consented.
During his statement before the judge Francisco De JorgeRivera denied having pressured Hermoso, and stated that he was only a “run, go and tell him” or a “qualified messenger” of the federation and that he limited himself to conveying to the player that there were certain people who were calling her and wanted to talk with her.
He explained that he was in charge of organizing the trip to Ibiza that some of the national team players enjoyed after the World Cup victory because that was his task and, regarding the call he made to Hermoso’s friend, he indicated that it was precisely to give her the details of the trip to Ibiza.
Rivera also denied having received instructions from Rubiales or the director of the men’s team, Albert Lukecited as investigated next week.
Jenni Hermoso’s friend was one of the first witnesses to testify in the case, last September 25thwhen he confirmed, like the player’s brother, the pressures that this complaint has suffered.
In this procedure, the judge investigates Luis Rubiales for crimes of sexual assault and coercion, and former women’s coach Jorge Vilda, Rubén Rivera and Albert Luque are accused of this last crime.
