It is always unpredictable what can happen with Ostapenko in tournaments but when his inspiration is found in high values, his tennis is very difficult to cope with. Neither of the two had anything to do with quiet turns at serve. Several problems when it came to having to carry them out that caused instability that was transmitted in breaks. Even though the rest saw options, Neither of them took the role of feeling better or at least superior to the opponent.

From 3-3, the Latvian would stabilize her first blow by finding greater resources and skills when it came to having to take them out. Pegula, for her part, did not ride in those parts. She saved a break point, but at 4-5 the situation became complicated. It was a solid 40-0, but the remaining points of the game were scored by the Latvian who managed to close out on the first ball of the set.

In the second set, Jelena began with a break and then the motivation that came from being able to turn around a 0-40 to confirm the break was one of the most transcendent moments. There was some attempt by the American to seek a break. However, the Latvian was not going to allow it. What’s more, with 2-5, she reached 15-40, becoming a match point. From there Ostapenko celebrated the victory at the WTA 1000 in Beijing against Pegula.
